Sophia the Princess

When I was eleven, I wrote a children's story called Sophia the Princess. I was inspired by the stories I had been read as a kid and I wanted to write a story with just as much adventure. So, I spent the whole day working on the tale of Sophia the Princess:

Sophia the Princess and Jared the Terrible

A long time ago in Italy there was a princess named Sophia. Sophia was not like other princesses she loved to run in the forest, read, and go to school. While other princesses would slowly tip toe through the halls with their maids she would cartwheel from hall to hall and give her maid the day off. Her parents did not mind this odd behavior, but then one day at dinner she announced

“I want to be a knight NOT a princess!”

Her older brother, Ronald, laughed revealing his chewed up peas, her mother screamed, and her father stared. Ever since that day her parents locked her up in a tower never letting her out until she came to her senses, which she NEVER EVER, EVER did!

It was her sixteenth birthday when she looked out the window and saw trees violently being shaking in an extremely unusual wind. Then she saw him, a fireball of fear flying straight for her kingdom. She gasped when she realized the legend was true. She ran to her door and kicked with all her might, but it wouldn’t budge. So she ripped her curtains from their rods, tied them together, and threw them down her window. Then she slowly climbed down the rope and ran to the castle as fast as she could.

When she got to the castle she ran into a very specific room, the room in which the King would hold the knighting ceremony! She made a fist and broke the only case in the room. This case held the armor, the sword, and the shield for the next knight. As she got dressed in it she thought if I am going to be a knight I should be knighted, but oh well, I have a mission to attend to. Sophia ran to the stables and grabbed a stallion not only was she smart, and imaginative she was also a great horsewoman. So off she rode to stop the dragon’s great destruction.

It was not hard to follow Jared the Terrible, as they called the beast, for he had left a trail of burnt and broken trees behind him.

“Whoa, he seems to be way more powerful the what the legend says.” Sophia whispered, “I hope the castle’s alright.”

Sophia, fortunately, had read thousands of books on dragons and new all their strengths and weaknesses. Dragons are vicious creatures and will stop at nothing to steal humans’ wealth and money. Jared the Terrible was as vicious as dragons get and was feared through out the world. Even the mention of his name brought fear and suspicion to your village. Sophia brought her horse to a stop and looked towards a cave. Sophia gulped and walked towards what she knew was Jared’s dragon cave and inside before her sat a massive dragon smirking at her with the thoughts of evil in his mind.

“I could smell you before you arrived, I could hear your horses footsteps” Yelled a raspy voice, “What is your business here.”

“I came to challenge you.” Sophia confidently explained

“Challenge me!” the dragon laughed, “I doubt that a little girl in knights armor could defeat me!”

“I’m sixteen years old and am not in the least a little girl!” Sophia shouted defensively

“Age does not matter, but skill does. And you, being a girl, would not be trained to become a knight.”

“That is true, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a try!” Sophia replied

“Well, if you think so highly of yourself let’s go outside and settle the matter!” The dragon decided as he stomped outside the cave grabbing Sophia with his tail.

“Mind the spikes!” He advised her

Sophia grabbed a bucket of bones that was lying next to the cave and ran with it to a river the dragon followed! She secretly filled the bucket up with water. Then Sophia ran around in circle while the dragon tried to smash her with its tail. Eventually, the dragon opened up its mouth to burn her with his fire at the same time Sophia threw water into his mouth extinguishing his fire for about a year. Next, Sophia grabbed a chain and tied his paw with it. When he tried to fly he became tired and one of his wings broke.

“Alright you’ve won now kill me!” the dragon gasped

“Kill you! I will NOT kill you. I am going to take you home to be treated by my vet and let you live in the castle.” Sophia explained

The dragon nodded and promised to do good deeds (Dragons never break their promises). So, Sophia and Jared walked home talking of the many things they would do together when they got home.

When Sophia came home with the now tamed dragon her kingdom praised her and her father hugged her told her that she would never have to go into that tower again, but she had grown to like the tower so she decided to decorate it however she wanted to and live in it until she married or simply got bored. Jared was taken to the Royal Veterinarian. His wing was bandaged, the repaired his fire chamber making it less powerful and dangerous. They also made him a cave not to far from Sophia’s tower so they could be forever friends. Sophia could have never been happier!
